Pitch for Justice, Bat for Equity

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 22, 2008

"PITCH FOR JUSTICE, BAT FOR EQUITY": FILIPINA/O AMERICAN YOUTH IN SAN DIEGO SUPPORT FILIPINO AMERICAN WWII VETERANS

Filipina/o Americans for Veterans Equity, San Diego (FAVESD) call of "Pitch for Justice, Bat for Equity" is in support of full equity and recognition for Filipino American WWII Veterans at the Filipino Heritage Night during the September 10th Padres Game. The current passing of the US Senate Bill 1315 (S. 1315), the Veterans' Benefits Enhancement Act of 2007, will provide Filipino American Veterans with benefits for fighting under the U.S. flag during WWII. Advocates of the Veterans Movement still wait for the vote from the House of Representatives to correct a historical injustice.

"Over 250,000 Filipinos served in the U.S. military and fought under the U.S. flag. They were promised citizenship and benefits, but the 1946 Rescission Act unjustifiably stripped Filipinos of the benefits they were promised", Patricia Guevarra (co-coordinator of FAVESD). Filipino American Veterans in San Diego and FAVESD are encouraging Filipina/o American youth to support their WWII Veterans at the Filipino Heritage Night to bring more awareness and advocacy for the injustices against our Filipino American WWII Veterans.

"The Filipino American youth in San Diego inspires us [Filipino American WWII Veterans] to continue this struggle for justice" Atty. Manuel Cannu (American Coalition of Filipino American Veterans). In honor of Filipino American WWII Veterans who fought in our war, Filipina/o American youth in San Diego are fighting for their equity and invite you to the following event:
